But to make it well the old brass bearing has to be removed, that means I need a new stern tube too because of the measurements of the existing one, which is actually too narrow for an engine with rubber bearings.
So actually I only need a new rubber bearing for the shaft. The other reason is, that for the planned underwater hull reconstruction because of osmosis the rudder and shaft bearings have to be new.įact is I made new already the engine bed with rubber bearings in April this year. This is one reason I want a new shaft bearing. And there were also a not good modificated rubber bearing for the shaft too, which did not kept the water out of the boat. In my case I had an old brass bearing for the shaft directly by the prop and rubber bearings for the engine. Today rubber bearings are used for both, shaft and engine.
In earlier times they used a brass bearing by a fix mounted engine on the engine bed. In this case the bearings of the shaft and of the engine were mixed up. And old boats don't have only their own calendar, they have also a lot of surprises. Rudder and shaft are dismantled now (actually this should happen already in the beginning of this year).Īnd yes, it is an old boat.
